Katy Rubin
legislative theatre
Katy Rubin is a Legislative Theatre practitioner based in the UK, working with local city councils, advocacy organisations and community groups to co-create policies and practices that are human-centered, equitable, innovative and effective. She joined Shared Future in 2021 and led on our NESTA-funded Democracy Pioneers project, Glasgow Youth-Led Climate Crisis Legislative Theatre, a project to amplify the voices of young Glaswegians and affect Glasgow City Council environmental policies in the run-up to the COP26 climate conference.
She is also the former founding executive director of Theatre of the Oppressed NYC, a non-profit organization that partners with communities facing discrimination to spark transformative action.
Katy trained with creator of Theatre of the Oppressed, Augusto Boal, in Brazil, and has led projects with activists and artists internationally over the past decade. She holds a BFA in Acting from the Boston University School of Theatre and is an alum of Coro Leadership New York. She’s also a retired circus artist!
