Take part in our new Green PB Organisers Network

Shared Future CIC has funding from the Network For Social Change Charitable Trust (NSCCT) to establish mentoring, advice and support for a new network of Green Participatory Budgeting Organisers.

Time is running short to protect our planet and achieve Net Zero. Greater citizen power behind the climate transition is urgently needed. Especially if it is going to be a socially just transition, with no one left behind.

Watch our intro video, by Jez Hall, who is leading this exciting project.

“We want to ensure climate policy makers, budget holders and local authorities in England use participatory democracy to ensure every citizen can have their say, and do their bit, over how millions of pounds for climate and environmental projects are being spent… through directing public money in their locality.

Could you be one of the people in our first wave of Green PB organisers?”

By leaving your details we will ensure you are the first to know when the programme launches in summer 2025.

What does it involve?

The project will run from late summer 2025 for around 10 months. During the project you will be invited to join regular webinars and discussion groups, and work with others in an informal, and practical, online learning community.

Ideally you will host at least one conversation in your community to explain how Green PB works and plan a local advocacy campaign or project. We’ll help you with that and support you all the way.

Towards the end of the programme we will co-design new resources and messaging to help others wanting to run or advocate for Green PB in their community.

Who is leading the project?

Jez Hall, a Shared Future founding director, will be leading the project. He has over 20 years experience of supporting, mentoring and running participatory budgeting projects. We’ll also draw on the extensive knowledge of our whole team and associates.

What does it cost, and what is the commitment?

There is no cost to participate. Ideally, you would be available for at least 3-4 days, spread over several months. We understand that you might not be able to make every meeting.

We’ll aim to ensure online meetings take place at a time convenient for the majority, and record sessions you can’t make. Most activity will take place over our ZOOM platform.

Whilst its free, unfortunately we don’t have the resources to pay you a bursary or cover your time commitment, though some small expenses to host a local meeting will be available.

Who is it for?

Almost anyone. If you have prior experience of participatory budgeting, community organising or in climate activism, that might be helpful, but the most important ingredient is your desire to learn and take part. If you work for a local authority, or a local councillor, you can also join.

Places are limited however, to around 10 people, and we will prioritise community based individuals and every-day citizens, especially those from a traditionally under-represented area or community, and those from the north of England, where we are based.

If you express an interest we will reach out, talk to you individually and confirm you have a place. Time is short, so please complete our sign-up form as soon as possible.
