Dundee Climate Participatory Budgeting Round 3 is drawing to a close

Community Choices is Dundee’s version of Participatory Budgeting – a democratic process which empowers people and communities to have a greater say in how public money is spent. Within that, Climate or Green PB features strongly. Now, in its third round, the 2025 fund winners are about to be announced.

The first round allocated £375,000 in 2023, and the second, in 2024, awarded another £375,000. Over 4,500 votes were cast in round 2. The third round has been smaller but still significant with over £95,000 available.

The money can be spent on projects that deliver on:

  • raising awareness (building capacity) – increasing awareness, engaging communities and young people in climate change.
  • energy – reducing consumption, promoting energy efficiency, use of renewables;
  • transport – encouraging active travel, decarbonising transport;
  • waste – reducing waste, recycling, reusing resources;
  • resilience – improving greenspaces, biodiversity, local food growing;

Dundee’s Climate, Environment & Biodiversity Convener Cllr Heather Anderson said of round 2:

“There is no better way of making positive sustainable changes within our city than on a ground-level by supporting Dundee-based projects directly on their original, community-driven solutions… it’s great to see residents have engaged and done their bit by giving their backing to the projects they want to see continue to flourish in our city.”
