The Lancaster district Climate Change People’s Jury

Thirty local people from Lancaster District helped to develop a new action plan to tackle one of the biggest issues facing the world today – climate change.

The People’s Jury was formed to examine the response to the climate emergency so far and produce recommendations that will be used to guide the future work of the council and a range of other organisations across the district.  The question considered by the Lancaster district Climate Change People’s Jury was:

“What do we need to do in our homes, neighbourhoods and district to respond to the emergency of climate change?”

Lancaster City Council convened a People’s Jury on climate change, a pioneering way of involving ordinary people in advising the council and others on how best to combat the problem. It follows the council’s declaration of a climate change emergency last year and is supported by academics and experts in the field.
