Organisation: Davy Jones Consultancy
I have been a passionate supporter of PB for over 12 years. When working at the Audit Commission in 2003, I organised the first national conference in the UK on PB. I was a long-term member of the PB National Reference Group. For me, PB is the single most effective way of overcoming public cynicism about citizen participation. And it is arguably the most effective way to give people a real say in the public services that affect their lives.
I have been directly involved in PB projects – most recently PB projects in Brighton with young people. I was also involved in the early days with advising other SE PB pilots – including Thornhill (Southampton) and Adur.
I have also been responsible for looking after the South East England PB Network, bringing together all the South East England PB pilots. I also have extensive experience of speaking at national conferences and workshops about PB, running PB training courses and writing about it for national journals, especially in the local government field.
I am a freelance consultant specialising in citizen involvement. I am a Fellow and Associate of the Consultation Institute and on its National Advisory Board. I have nearly 12 years' experience of working in local government in London, followed by a further eight years working for the Audit Commission, where at different times I was responsible for local government performance indicators, work on Quality of Life and the acclaimed Area Profiles project.
I am also a commentator on local government issues – writing regularly for Municipal Journal and blogging about public service issues and citizen participation.
