Organisation: Amanda Murrell Associates Ltd.
Amanda Murrell's passion is assisting individuals to succeed, by increasing their confidence and self-belief and empowering them to take responsibility for their actions.
She truly believes that Participatory Budgeting can help to empower individuals and groups: it is an obvious method to increase their confidence and to achieving their goals (improving their locality), and it has the added benefit of increasing community cohesion.
Amanda has been passionate about PB since 2008 when her company, Amanda Murrell Associates Ltd, was formed, and she is keen for PB to increase. Her reasons for being involved with the PB Network, steering group and PB Partners is to assist in giving PB momentum and to increase the knowledge within all sectors - particularly within voluntary organisations.
Amanda has been involved with PB training programmes since 2008 on behalf of the Consultation Institute. She has worked with other PB partners to deliver various courses on PB, some that have been generic and others that have been co-developed and delivered. Examples include bespoke courses for Guy’s & St Thomas' Hospital, NHS Cambridge, Leicestershire CCG and a vast number of public effective PB courses for the Consultation Institute in partnership with the previous PB Unit. She has been advising and supporting Angus Council in Scotland with their PB project, which was part of the overall PB programme for Scotland in 2015, and is also involved with a PB project in Hackney for Connect Hackney CVS.
She has researched PB programmes both nationally and internationally and has attended numerous seminars, conferences and workshops on PB. She has developed and delivered numerous community events where some elements of PB have been used, such as Section 106 Money From Developers For Housing Regeneration within the London Borough of Hackney.
Amanda has over 20 years' experience as a trainer and business coach, developing and delivering specialist training programmes to diverse audiences within all sectors - including deprived communities, NHS service users, young people, older generations, local authorities, NHS, Police, the Probation Service and management leadership programmes for a range of organisations.
Amanda has vast experience of developing and delivering a range of deliberative events/workshops for all sectors, but mainly Housing and Health. She has worked with Thurrock Council to deliver deliberative consultation workshops to key stakeholders on the regeneration of Grays High Street and Tilbury Town Centre.
As an Approved Partner of the Consultation Institute and on their Advisory Board, Amanda is one of only a few consultants that have been independently benchmarked against best practice principles to ensure that her methods of engagement are comprehensive, transparent and meaningful.
Amanda was an external trustee for Bedfordshire University Student Union for three years, where she offered her expertise in consulting/engaging with stakeholders, providing support and mentoring services for the board members.
She also provided leadership as a former President of Bedfordshire BusinessWomen, a local award-winning network, which gave Amanda a great sense of satisfaction and allowed her the opportunity to bring local businesses together to increase their credibility and income.
